Installing Your Phone ChargerUpdated 13 hours ago

Adding a powered phone holder to your Ariel Rider allows you to charge your device directly from the bike's battery. To do this, you must install the Y-Cable between the display and the main wiring harness.

Crucial: Avoid the Keypad Trap

The connectors for your Display and your Keypad look identical.

  • The Goal: Connect the Y-cable to the Display wire.

  • The Danger: If you connect the Y-cable to the Keypad wire, the phone holder will not receive power, and you may cause a communication error on your bike.

Installation Steps

StepActionConnection Detail
1Locate the Display WiresStand in front of the bike, facing the handlebars. Look at the back of the LCD display.
2Identify the Left WireLocate the wire exiting the left side of the display (when facing the bike). This is the wire that leads to the Main Harness.
3DisconnectUnplug the connection between that left display wire and the main harness.
4Insert Y-CableTake your Y-Cable and plug it into the two ends you just disconnected. It acts as a "bridge."
5Connect MountPlug the third, remaining end of the Y-cable into the wire coming from your Phone Holder.

Pro-Tips for a Perfect Setup

  • Check the Arrows: Most connectors have tiny embossed arrows. Ensure these arrows are perfectly aligned before pushing the connectors together to avoid bending the internal pins.

  • Don't Force It: If the plugs don't slide together easily, double-check that you aren't trying to connect a male-to-male or female-to-female end.

  • Test Before Tying: Power on your bike and plug in your phone to ensure it's charging before you use zip-ties to tidy up the cables.

  • Cable Management: Use zip-ties to secure the Y-cable to the existing wire loom. Ensure there is enough "slack" so that the cables don't pull tight when you turn the handlebars fully to the left or right.

Troubleshooting

"My bike turns on, but my phone isn't charging."

This almost always means the Y-cable was accidentally connected to the Keypad wire (the right-side wire), or the throttle wire, instead of the Main Harness wire (the left-side wire). Swap the connection to the other display wire and try again.
