Error 08 & Error 09 Troubleshooting guideUpdated 3 hours ago

What are Error 08 and Error 09?

Error 08 indicates a hall sensor error on your e-bike. This error occurs when there's a problem with the magnetic sensors that detect the motor's rotor position.

Error 09 indicates a motor phase error on your e-bike. This error occurs when there's a communication problem between the motor and the controller, typically due to electrical connection issues or damaged cables in the motor phase circuits.

Both errors share the same troubleshooting steps as they involve motor electrical connections and communication between the motor and controller.

Safety Requirements

Before beginning any troubleshooting:

  1. Power the bike completely OFF
  2. Remove the battery from the bike
  3. Allow the system to fully power down

Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1: Inspect Motor Connections

Motor Cable Connector Inspection

  1. Locate the motor cable connection ( near the rear wheel on the swing arm)
  2. Carefully unplug the motor connector
  3. Inspect both sides of the connectionfor:
    • Bent or damaged pins
    • Corrosion or oxidation
    • Debris or moisture inside the connector
    • Burns or discoloration around pins

Important: Use good lighting or a flashlight to clearly see inside the connector pins. Take photos of both the male and female sides of the connector if any damage is visible.

Motor Cable Physical Inspection

Examine the motor cable along its entire length:

  1. Follow the cable from the motor to the controller
  2. Look for visible damage including:
    • Cuts or nicks in the cable jacket
    • Pinched or crushed areas
    • Wear marks where cable rubs against frame
    • Exposed wires or damaged insulation
  3. Pay special attention to stress points:
    • Where the cable enters the motor housing
    • Areas where the cable bends or flexes during riding
    • Connection points and joints

Hub Motor Cable Inspection

For bikes with hub motors:

  1. Locate the motor cable at the hub connection
  2. Pull back the protective spring or cover
  3. Inspect the connection area for:
    • Water ingress or moisture
    • Damaged seals or protective covering
    • Loose connections
    • Corrosion on electrical contacts
    • Damage to the cable itself

Step 2: Document Findings

If you discover any damage during inspection:

  1. Take clear, well-lit photos of any damaged areas
  2. Note the specific location of any issues found
  3. Avoid manipulating damaged cables to prevent further damage

When to Contact Support

Contact technical support if:

  • Error 08 or Error 09 persists
  • You discover damaged connectors or cables during inspection
  • The motor makes unusual noises when attempting to operate
  • You find damage or corrosion in electrical connections

Understanding Motor Systems

Hall Sensor Errors (Error 08) relate to the magnetic sensors that detect the motor's rotor position for precise timing and control.

Motor Phase Errors (Error 09) relate to the three-phase electrical system that powers brushless motors. Each phase must work in coordination for proper motor operation. When one phase fails due to connection issues or cable damage, Error 09 appears to protect the system from further damage.

Both types of errors often stem from the same root causes: damaged connections, moisture ingress, or cable wear.
