Grizzly 72v PPB - Error Code E04Updated 6 days ago
Error code E04 indicates that the controller temperature has exceeded its safe operating threshold. This protection mechanism triggers during sustained high-load riding (such as steep climbs or high speeds in warm weather) or if airflow to the controller housing is restricted.
CRITICAL WARNING: Always power cycle—Dissipate Controller Energy (DCE)—your motorized bike before disconnecting or reconnecting any electrical components. On dual-battery models, both batteries must be removed to perform a proper DCE. Step-by-step guidance is available in our Power Cycle (DCE) Guide.
Troubleshooting Steps for Error E04
- Stop Riding & Park in the Shade: Stop riding immediately, pull over safely, and park your electric motorized bike in a cool, shaded area out of direct sunlight.
- Allow Controller to Cool (10–15 Minutes): Leave the bike stationary so airflow and heat dissipation can reduce internal temperatures. The error code will typically clear from the screen once the controller returns to safe operating levels (usually within 10 to 15 minutes).
- Power Cycle (DCE - Both Batteries): Turn off the bike, remove both batteries from the frame, and perform a full DCE power cycle to dissipate residual controller power and clear thermal protection error flags. Leave both batteries off for step 4.
- Inspect Controller & Airflow: While powered off and cooling, inspect the controller housing area to ensure it is clean and free of mud, dirt, or aftermarket bags/accessories blocking airflow.
- Reinstall Batteries & Resume at Reduced Throttle: Reinstall both batteries, power on the bike, and resume riding at reduced throttle and lower power assist levels to avoid immediate re-heating.

If error code E04 does not clear after 15 to 20 minutes of cooling down and completing a dual-battery DCE reset, or if it triggers repeatedly under normal light riding conditions, please contact our support team through our Contact Form.
IMPORTANT: Photos and videos are essential for resolving technical support tickets. Please attach a photo of your display screen showing the error code and clear photos of your controller mounting area when submitting your ticket.
