Grizzly 72v PPB - Error Code E31Updated 5 days ago

Error code E31 indicates a brake lever sensor fault, meaning the controller detects that one or both brake cut-off sensors at the handlebars have been disconnected or have lost signal continuity.

CRITICAL WARNING: Always power cycle—Dissipate Controller Energy (DCE)—your motorized bike before disconnecting or reconnecting any electrical components. On dual-battery models, both batteries must be removed to perform a proper DCE. Step-by-step guidance is available in our Power Cycle (DCE) Guide.

Troubleshooting Steps for Error E31

  1. Power Cycle (DCE - Both Batteries): Turn off the bike display, remove both batteries from the frame, and perform a full DCE power cycle to dissipate residual power and reset controller signal memory. Leave both batteries off for step 2.
  2. Inspect & Reconnect Brake Pigtails: Locate the quick-disconnect pigtail cables extending from both the left and right brake levers near the handlebars. Unplug each connector, inspect internal pins for bending or corrosion, and firmly reconnect both plugs—ensuring alignment arrows match up completely.
  3. Check Brake Lever Position: Ensure both brake levers spring back fully to their rest positions and are not stuck or partially pulled, which can cause the sensor to send an active signal.
  4. Reinstall Batteries & Test: Reinstall both batteries, power on the display, and check if Error E31 clears. Test both front and rear brake levers to confirm normal brake cut-off operation.
