Grizzly 72v PPB: First Ride ChecklistUpdated 8 hours ago

Use this comprehensive guide and accompanying video to unbox, prepare, and safely inspect your Grizzly 72VT electric motorized bike, as well as maintain it after every ride.

CRITICAL WARNING: Always power cycle—Dissipate Controller Energy (DCE)—your electric motorized bike before performing maintenance or connecting/disconnecting any electrical components. On dual-battery models like the Grizzly 72VT, both batteries must be removed to perform a proper DCE. Step-by-step guidance is available in our Power Cycle (DCE) Guide.

Inspection & Setup Video Guide

Part 1: Before Your First Ride

  1. Inspect Your Delivery:
    • Check the outer shipping box and the bike frame thoroughly for any signs of shipping damage.
    • Locate and record your vehicle serial number.
    • If any parts or packaging are damaged, contact support immediately before proceeding.
  2. Torque Approved Components Only:
    • Open your owner's manual to Section 8.
    • Torque only the user-serviceable components listed: the handlebars, front wheel/axle, and mounting hardware.
    • Leave all other adjustments and procedures to a certified technician or a reputable professional bicycle mechanic.
  3. Put on Full Protective Gear:

Both the rider and any passenger must wear proper safety gear:

    • DOT-approved helmet
    • Eye protection (goggles or glasses)
    • Full-finger riding gloves
    • Durable protective clothing
    • Sturdy riding boots
  4. Request First-Use Instructions:
    • Keep the bike powered off.
    • Reach out through our Contact Form with your order number and serial number.
    • Request your written first-use instructions covering controls, initial setup, and early riding guidance.
  5. Charge the Batteries Correctly:
    • Wait until you receive your specific charging instructions before plugging in.
    • Always use only the original chargers supplied with your bike.

Part 2: Six-Zone Safety Check

Perform this visual and mechanical inspection with the vehicle power turned OFF before every ride:

ZoneAreaWhat to Check
1Rider & RouteRider is 18 years of age or older, wearing full protective gear, and authorized to operate. Total payload capacity does not exceed 400 lb.
2Front EndTires are inflated to recommended PSI (check when cold). Wheel rim, spokes, axle, and fork legs show no damage, play, or wobble.
3Cockpit & ControlsHandlebars are securely clamped and steering operates smoothly. Brake levers feel firm without bottoming out. Throttle snaps back freely when released. Perform a rolling walking brake test.
4Batteries & FrameBoth batteries are locked securely into their mounts with rubber port covers closed. Inspect for abnormal heat, odors, swelling, or casing damage.
5DrivetrainPedals and crank arms are tightly fastened and free of play. Drive chain is clean and properly lubricated.
6Rear EndRear tire pressure is correct. Rear hub motor cable, brake rotor, suspension components, and kickstand are securely attached and in good condition.

Initial Riding Session Guidelines

  • Ride solo (never carry a passenger during initial testing).
  • Practice on flat, smooth private property free of vehicle traffic.
  • Familiarize yourself with gradual acceleration, low-speed turns, and smooth braking.

Part 3: Powered Electrical Check

  1. Power the electrical system on.
  2. Verify full functionality of the display, headlight, taillight, turn signals, horn, and electronic brake motor inhibitors.
  3. Stop and do not ride if the display indicates any system error codes.

Part 4: Post-Ride Care & Inspection

  1. Power Down: Turn off the bike, remove the keys, and allow motors, brakes, and electrical components to cool down naturally.
  2. Perform Visual Inspection: Check the battery packs, motors, brake calipers/rotors, and tires for debris, punctures, leaks, or loosened hardware.
  3. Log & Report Issues: Document any drops, impacts, unusual noises, error warnings, or performance changes.
IMPORTANT: If a collision, fall, or electrical fault occurs, keep the vehicle parked and batteries disconnected until our technical support team evaluates and clears it in writing.
