How do I inspect my cables and connections for damage?Updated 20 days ago

When there are components on your bike that aren't working correctly the first thing to do is to inspect the cables for damage. Cable damage can cause many issues and finding that damage is often the first step in getting you back on your bike.

This video will show you how to inspect your cables and pins for damage, written instructions are below

When you are doing maintenance or troubleshooting on your bike, always do so in a well lit environment.

The first step for this maintenance is to power cycle the bike.

The first place we want to check for cable damage, especially if the motor is what you are concerned with, is the motor cable.

The first thing we want to do is to pull back the protective spring on the motor cable so that you can see where the cable enters the motor. This is typically easiest to do if you remove the rear wheel from the bike.

Next check the connections for your display and other components.

First inspect the cable leading to the component for any cuts or other damage. Then you will want to inspect the connections themselves by disconnecting them and ensuring that none of the pins are bent or have missed the pin sleeve.

When you are disconnecting these components always ensure you are pulling them directly apart without twisting or bending the connection.

When you reconnect these components always make sure that the pins are aligned and press the connections directly together with no twisting or bending.

Finally we will want to inspect the connection between the main wire harness and the controller. Just like with the other components, first, make sure that there is no damage to the cable, where you can access it.

After you have inspected the cable you will want to disconnect the controller and main wire harness and inspect the pins, making sure that none of the pins are bent or have missed their pin sleeve.
