MUDD PPB - Pre-Support Steps and ChecksUpdated 3 hours ago

This guide provides a step-by-step procedure for testing your e-bike’s display, lights, and walk mode, as well as safely inspecting the internal controller bay wiring to assist with technical troubleshooting.

CRITICAL WARNING: Always power cycle—Dissipate Controller Energy (DCE)—your electric motorized bike before disconnecting or reconnecting any electrical components or opening the controller bay. On dual-battery models, both batteries must be removed to perform a proper DCE. Step-by-step guidance is available in our Power Cycle (DCE) Guide.

Troubleshooting Video Guide

Required Tools & Materials

  • 3 mm hex wrench (Allen key)
  • Work light or bright flashlight
  • Smartphone (for clear photo documentation)

Phase 1: Battery & Controls Inspection

  1. Test Battery Voltage & State of Charge:

Remove both batteries from the frame. Hold down the charge-level indicator button on each battery pack until the LED lights illuminate sequentially to verify a full/adequate charge state.

  2. Test Power & Turn Signals:
    • Reinstall both adequately charged batteries onto the frame.
    • Press the Power button on the keypad to start the electrical system.
    • Tap the Left Arrow on the keypad to verify that the left turn signal functions on both the display and tail light.
    • Tap the Right Arrow on the keypad to verify that the right turn signal functions on both the display and tail light.
  3. Check Headlight, Tail Light & Brake Indicators:
    • Press and hold the Plus (+) button on the keypad to illuminate the headlight and tail light.
    • Squeeze the left brake lever: verify that the brake indicator icon activates on the display and the tail light brightens.
    • Squeeze the right brake lever: verify that the brake display icon and tail light activate similarly.
  4. Inspect Cockpit Cables & Test Walk Mode:
    • Visually inspect all wiring leads, connectors, and hydraulic brake lines near the handlebars/cockpit and frame entry points for binding, pinch marks, or loose fittings.
    • Prop the bike up securely on its kickstand so the rear wheel is suspended off the ground.
    • Press and hold the Minus (−) button on the keypad until Walk Mode engages the rear motor.

Phase 2: Controller Bay & Cable Inspection

  1. Access the Controller Bay:

Turn off the bike's electrical system, safely remove both batteries, and execute a full DCE power cycle. Locate the controller compartment cover plate on the left side of the frame and unfasten it using a 3 mm hex wrench.

  2. Document Wiring & Inspect Internal Connections:
    • Take a clear smartphone photo of the internal wiring layout before cutting zip ties or shifting components.
    • Carefully clip any zip ties securing the internal harness and gently pull the connectors outward for inspection.
    • Using a bright light, inspect all wires and connectors for:
      • Crimps, pinches, or severe bends
      • Discolored, melted, or scorched insulation
      • Signs of excessive heat or moisture/debris intrusion
      • Exposed or frayed copper wiring
DANGER / CRITICAL SAFETY WARNING: If you discover any damaged cables, melted connectors, or exposed wiring during your inspection, DO NOT reinstall the batteries or attempt to power on the bike.

Need Further Assistance?

If you identify wiring damage, melted components, or persistent system error codes during testing, please submit a ticket directly through our Contact Form.

IMPORTANT: Photos and videos are essential for resolving technical support tickets. Please attach clear photos of your controller bay wiring, damaged connectors, battery serial numbers, and display error codes when submitting your ticket. Keep both batteries removed from the bike until tech support reviews your case.
