Proper battery maintenanceUpdated 15 days ago
Battery maintenance starts with proper charging techniques. Following the correct steps helps maximize your battery's lifespan and keeps your bike running reliably.
Charging Order of Operations
When connecting or disconnecting your battery charger, always follow this specific order of operations to prevent sparking and electrical surges:
- Plugging In:
- Connect the charger to the battery.
- Plug the charger into the wall outlet.
- Unplugging:
- Unplug the charger from the wall outlet.
- Disconnect the charger from the battery.
IMPORTANT: Unplug the charger as soon as the indicator light turns green. Do not leave the battery connected to the charger once it reaches full capacity.
Best Practices for Daily Use
- When to Recharge: As a general rule, recharge your battery once the capacity drops below 50%.
- Minimum Threshold: Never allow the battery charge to fall below 20%. Draining the battery completely can cause severe cell damage, rendering it unchargeable and requiring a full battery replacement.
Long-Term Storage (Over 2 Weeks)
If you plan to store your battery without riding for longer than two weeks, follow these steps to preserve battery health:
- Set Charge Level: Charge or discharge the battery to approximately 75% capacity.
- Temperature & Environment: Store the battery indoors in a dry, climate-controlled location between 50°F – 77°F (10°C – 25°C).
- Monthly Checkups: Inspect the battery level once a month. If the charge has dropped, use your official Ariel Rider charger to top it back up to 75%.
