X‑Class 60V: My brakes have a spongey leverUpdated 20 days ago
Firming up the brakes
Hydraulic bicycle brakes feel spongy when air gets trapped in the brake lines, since air compresses much more easily than brake fluid. Other causes include contaminated or old brake fluid that has absorbed moisture, worn seals that allow air to enter the system, or insufficient fluid in the reservoir. These steps should help you get your brakes working like new.
- Check for leaks at caliper and lever.
- Top up fluid if low and bleed with mineral oil (Shimano‑spec).
- After bleeding, squeeze lever several times to settle bubbles, then recheck.
