X-Class 60V: How to Replace the Inner Tube and TireUpdated 3 days ago
Flat tires happen, but with the right technique, you can get back on the road quickly. Follow this guide to properly remove, inspect, and install a new inner tube on your Ariel Rider e-bike.
Tools You'll Need
Tire irons (lever tools)
New inner tube (Ariel Rider recommends never using patches)
Clean rag
Valve core tool (optional)
Optional: Cornstarch or baby powder
Phase 1: Removing the Old Tube
Deflate: Remove the valve stem cap. Use a tool to remove the valve core or simply press the center pin to fully deflate the inner tube.
Unseat the Bead: Once the air is out, push the tire "bead" (the edge of the tire) away from the rim and toward the center "valley" of the wheel.
Lever the Tire: Insert your tire irons under the edge of the tire. Use them to lift one side of the tire over the metal rim.
Phase 2: Inspection & Cleaning
Before putting a new tube in, you must ensure the cause of the flat is gone.
The Rag Test: Run a clean rag around the entire inside of the tire. If something sharp is still embedded, it will snag the rag (this protects your fingers!).
Thorough Inspection: Visually inspect the tire casing for any debris or thorns.
Tube Prep: To prevent the tube from sticking or twisting, you can apply a light dusting of cornstarch or baby powder to the new inner tube.
Phase 3: The "Deep Valley" Installation Trick
Installing a tire can be frustrating because it feels "too small" for the wheel. Use this professional technique to make it easy:
Start the Hook: Hook one side of the tire over the edge of the metal wheel.
Work in a Circle: Use your hands to push the edge of the tire into the wheel, moving all the way around.
The Secret Trick (Creating Slack): As you reach the last section, the tire will feel too tight. Go to the side of the wheel directly across from your hands. Push that part of the tire down into the deepest center part of the rim (the valley).
The Snap: This creates the necessary slack to allow the final bit of the tire to snap over the edge easily with your hands.
Phase 4: Final Assembly
Insert Valve: Slide the valve stem of your new tube through the hole in the rim.
Seat the Bead: Slip the remaining tire bead back over the rim.
Warning: If you use tire irons to help snap the final edge of the tire on, be extremely careful. It is very easy to pinch or puncture your brand-new tube with the tools.
Need Help?
If the tire feels impossible to pull or like it might snap, stop and double-check that the opposite side is sitting in that middle valley. If you still have questions, contact Ariel Rider Tech Support through our contact form here.
